Name: Shaolin Fon [more commonly known as Soifon, Soi Fong, and Sui Feng] Age: Actual age is unknown as of yet, but appears to be in her early 20’s Birthday: February 11 Height: 4’11” Weight: 83 lbs.
Division: 2nd Division, is also captain of the Special Forces Position: Captain
Physical Appearance:
Just like all the other Captains, Soifon’s appearance is special and unique in every aspect.
The first noticeable difference is her body frame. Soifon is almost childishly short, standing at a mere 4’11”. She is also extremely thin and slender almost to the extent of bony. Despite this, she is muscular in a lean, lithe way, being capable of fighting off numerous enemies at once, and obviously being of captain rank. Despite being one of the smallest captains, next to Hitsugaya Toshirou, she is one of the toughest and most dedicated to the Gotei 13.
Her long, black hair is accompanied by a slight purplish tint in the anime, but is jet black in the manga. Either way, it is tied back into two, elongated braids. These braids appear to be covered in white cloth, often whipping out behind her in the wind. The rest of her hair is short and layered, barely reaching past her ears.
Upon close inspection, you can tell that her constantly-narrowed eyes are a deep, dark gray. Over the years, she has built a shield between her eyes and her emotions. It’s almost impossible for others to discern her feelings just from the depths of her optics. Her blank, scrutinizing eyes match the rest of her features – a blank, emotionless mask that hardly lets any emotion through other than anger and annoyance.
Like all captains, Soifon wears the standard white haori marking her captaincy. However, underneath her captain’s uniform, she wears the special force’s leader’s uniform – a sleeveless shihakusho with no covering for her back tied by a yellow sash at her waist. She also wears long, black, fingerless gloves, but it is unknown whether this is her own personal accessory or part of the Secret Mobile Corps uniform.
Unlike most other Shinigami, she prefers to wear her Zanpakuto across her lower back, very similar to Matsumoto Rangiku.
Personality:
Soifon is firm and loyal almost the point of fault, especially when taking orders from Yamamoto-sensei. It is shown that she never acts on her own emotions, even if she feels differently. She is solely devoted to fulfilling her duty as a captain in the Gotei 13, and she even goes so far as to look down on those who disobey the rules.
Although she doesn’t hesitate to lash out at unfaithful subordinates, she doesn’t take it as far as Kurotsuchi-taichou. Those that disappoint her are usually given a slap on the back of the wrist, unless he or she was assigned an important mission. These are usually rare, however, as she prefers to carry out harder tasks on her own instead of trusting her former lieutenant, Marechiyo Omaeda.
Unlike the bold, arrogant vice-captain, Soifon usually keeps to herself and has a cold, harsh exterior. The only person who has seen her softer side is her one and only heroine – Yoruichi Shihoin. She literally idolizes and worships the former captain, and seems to like anything related to a black cat, which is obviously Yoruichi’s other form. It’s shown that she even goes so far to try to give her heroine a box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day, and is even shown trying to take nude pictures of Yoruichi. These are, however, simply examples of her unimaginably huge admiration for the former 2nd Squad captain.
Like the few other high-ranking female Shinigami, she is also a member of the Shinigami Women’s Association. Although she only seems to attend the regular meetings just out of respect and boredom, she has been shown to have requested both a cell phone and a Shinigami video game, both of which featured her and Yoruichi. Both of these requests were denied, however.
Despite her stoic, solid exterior, Soifon is actually very emotional on the inside, ever since Yoruichi abandoned her. She is undeniably a human, and therefore has emotions and feelings just like everyone else. The only difference is that she never shows them in both words and appearance.
In order to gain a Captain rank, one has to not only be strong but quick-witted. Soifon is undoubtedly a clever, quick-thinking individual. She plays a strong role and has repeatedly shown her leadership skills by ordering her subordinates without a second’s hesitation. Making decisions quickly is simply one of her specialties.
She undoubtedly has a short temper, but over the years, has managed to stop herself from lashing out at random subordinates every time her anger reaches its point. Despite her easily-annoyed demeanor, Soifon rarely ever has a temper tantrum. She is determined to never let others see her break down, with the obvious exception of Yoruichi.
Fighting Style: To be part of the 2nd squad, one most obviously be skilled in martial arts. Soifon is undoubtedly an expert in hand-to-hand combat, although it’s unclear what technique she uses. Most of the time she enhances her speed and uses her small size to her advantage, which enables her to strike multiple times in the blink of an eye.
In battle, she doesn’t like to jump to Shikai unless she absolutely has to. Most of the time, she’ll try wearing down her enemy by using just fists and feet, and she rarely ever uses her sealed Zanpakuto or any other Kido than Shunpo, with the exception of Shunko (see below). However, due to her skilled use of Flash Steps and Flash Release, you can assume that she, too, is highly skilled in Kido combat, despite the fact that she rarely uses it.
Once Suzumebachi is activated, however, it becomes an entirely different story. If she can easily discern the difference between her level and her opponent’s level, then Soifon will not hesitate to play around with her target before entirely eliminating him or her. She rarely spars with other captains, and thus has very little opportunity to use her advanced skills upon trained enemies. Thus, she tends to draw out her fights with weaker opponents as opposed to trying to end them as soon as possible with more experienced fighters. However, if there is a time limit, or her enemy’s death is urgent, Soifon makes it her priority to end the job as soon as possible with the least amount of environmental damage.
Although few have ever seen it in use, and she is still in the midst of working it out, Soifon generally knows how to use Shunko. The rare but powerful technique combines hand-to-hand combat with Kido where the user concentrates a high amount of energy into their body and blasts it at his or her opponents. This explains why her Special Ops uniform has no sleeves or back covering, as the fabric would only be shredded from the pressure built up on the wearer’s back and shoulders. However, Soifon has yet to completely master the ability.

Zanpakutou Name: Suzumebachi [literally translates to “Hornet”]
Inner World: [This is my own version. If you want it to remain blank, jus ttell me and obviously I’ll take it out. o__< It’s a bit contradictory to my PM, however…]
Suzumebachi resides in a deep, pine forest. Although the majority of the woods are dark and ominous, there is a small clearing in the middle of the timber where Soifon and Suzumebachi can meet to discuss training with each other. Where Suzumebachi actually lives in the glade is unknown.
The sky above the woodland varies in terms of cloudiness according to either Suzumebachi or Soifon’s mood. If either is feeling angry or frustrated (which is basically most of the time), the atmosphere will be dotted with thunderstorms and rain clouds. If they are feeling content and relaxed, the sky will simply appear turquoise with patches of clouds speckled here and there across the heavens.
The forest isn’t the only landscape in Suzumebachi’s world. On the other side of the distinct edge of the woodlands are the plains. Although the rippling fields lack trees and foliage, they are covered in flowers and other such floral plants. When Soifon isn’t visiting this world, Suzumebachi can be seen constantly hovering above the flowers, unable to collect the pollen because of its huge size. This also demonstrates Soifon’s obsession with Yoruichi, since she cannot neither reach her mentor’s level of power or work alongside her.
Zanpakutou Spirit: [Same conditions apply as above]
In accordance to its name, Suzumebachi is a giant, genderless hornet. Accompanied by the usual gold and black stripes, it also has a large amount of small Houmonka symbols, also known in English as the Bee Rune Flower, dotted here and there over its large body. On the back of its thorax are two large, black wings also in the shape of Houmonka. These constantly flutter at such a high rate (similar to a hummingbird) that they only appear as enormous, black blurs. Like all hornets, Suzumebachi has a huge, ivory-colored sting attached to its rear. If stung with, the venom inside it acts as both a poison and antidote, thus her Shikai’s unique ability. On four of its six legs are miniature stings similar to the one on the bottom of its abdomen. Although these aren’t poisonous, they are still deadly if put to use.
Like Soifon, it is a very withdrawn figure. Suzumebachi tends to keep its history and details to itself, hardly ever speaking personally with its master. Every time they meet, it’s always down-to-business between them. In fact, Soifon and Suzumebachi hardly know each other on a personal level. Despite this, she knows quite a bit about its personality. It can be sadistic and cruel when need be, or even kindhearted and generous at other times. Suzumebachi is smart and quick-thinking, just like Soifon, and doesn’t hesitate to correct her when she is using it incorrectly. In fact, Suzumebachi and Soifon are very similar in personality, but neither of them have ever cared to find out who the opposite really is.
As for its history, it has never mentioned it, and she doubts Suzumebachi ever will.
Sealed Zanpakutou:
Suzumebachi’s sealed form has never been shown in great detail. Unlike other Zanpakutos, which are usually katanas or wakizashis, Soifon’s Suzumebachi is similar to a shorter, thicker Chinese Dao. It is usually found attached straight across her lower back. Despite its odd placement, Soifon can still move with ease. The guard cloth itself is a combination of indigo and beige, matching the scabbard, which is also a shade of indigo. The crossguard appears to have all four points folded inwards towards the base, as opposed to the typical rectangular form. The blade is assumed to be just as sharp as usual, and according to the shape of the sheath, it has more of a curve than normal.
Shikai Release Phrase: “Jinteki shakutsetsu.” [“Sting all enemies to death.”]
Shikai Description:
Upon the activation phrase, Suzumebachi shrinks into a golden stinger that is worn comfortably on the middle finger of her right hand. It is connected to a spiral-shaped bracelet by a short, thin chain. In general, it matches her wasp-based Zanpakuto with its gold-and-black color theme.
In its Shikai form, Suzumebachi’s abilities are relatively simple and slightly limited, but are unimaginably powerful nonetheless. The first and most useful technique is the two-stab death. If Soifon stabs her opponent, regardless of the body part, the Houmonka spreads from the point of contact, even over clothes is necessary. If this same point is stabbed for a second time, the enemy will immediately die, regardless of his or her strength. However, opponents who are more powerful can withstand this ability for a few minutes before they bend to its power. Although in her first years of using Shikai, Soifon was only capable of maintaining these crests on her opponents for 30 minutes at a maximum, but due to decades of training, now these are only removed by her will.
Its second technique is more of a side-effect than an intended ability. The two-stab death skill is mainly caused by the venom Suzumebachi secretes, which also acts as a handy antidote for most poisons. However, in order for Soifon to use the antidote on her own body, she has to stab herself with Suzumebachi.

*~!~*History*~!~*
--->Years in Rukongai<---
Shaolin Fon was born into the Fon House, a lower-ranked house designed to serve and protect the higher members of the noble Shihoin house. Because of traditions, any member who does not pass the Special Forces test is immediately dismissed from the house without a second glance. After training and working hard despite being under pressure from her peers and elders, Shaolin managed to pass the test alongside her five older brothers. Once she was accepted into the Forces, Soifon decided to adopt her grandmother’s alias – Soifon.
However, shortly after their admittance into the Special Forces, her first two brothers died on their first mission. Her next two brothers died on their second mission, and her last remaining sibling died on his sixth.
After decades of hard work and training, Soifon gradually worked her way up the ranks until she was eventually promoted to the head of guard for Shihoin Yoruichi, the leader of the Special Forces at that point in time. Impressed with her skills, Yoruichi adopted Soifon as a student, and the two became closer than a mentor/apprentice relationship. Thus began her obsession with Yoruichi.
The two worked closely together and were constantly looking out for each other. Oftentimes, Soifon referred to Yoruichi with the highest honor, but was forced to lower her status to ‘Yoruichi-sama’, much to her mentor’s chagrin. This only seemed to increase Soifon’s admiration for Yoruichi, as she acted differently from other nobles.
--->Academy Years<--- [This is during her training to join the Special Forces]
Being part of the Special Forces, Soifon had already been trained to be a Shinigami before beginning her time as head guard. Her skill in hand-to-hand combat and Kido almost gave her a free ride through her house’s private institution, which was recognized and approved of by the official Shinigami Academy. Although the academy was specifically designed for the Fon house members trained to serve as guards (meaning they, too, excelled in hand-to-hand combat), Soifon surpassed their skills without even trying, even continuing to receive top marks in Kido.
Due to her quiet, stern personality, Soifon wasn’t exactly the most popular student there. However, she was extremely revered by others for her strength, and that jealousy would stay with her after her admission into the Gotei 13. She was extremely picky with those she conversed with, which would prove to be a similar trait with her subordinates later on. Those that received low marks and were unfit to be a Shinigami in her eyes would be completely ignored. Although she did have one or two friends at one point or another, she was still dedicated to Yoruichi, and always seemed to pull away from her friends whenever she decided they got too close.
It wasn’t a surprise to her when she graduated after just a few years in the academy. After all, she was a top student always seemed to be fighting for a higher level of power. However, instead of being immediately accepted into the 2nd Division, Soifon was simply placed in the Gotei 13 as a normal ranked officer, seeing as she was part of the Special Forces. The main reason for this was that the officials wanted to wait and see if she would serve better as a Special Forces official as opposed to a Shinigami.
--->Admission into Gotei 13<---
It seemed as though her world was going perfectly according to plan. She was serving under a goddess of whom she admired with the utmost respect, she was exceptionally skilled in fighting, and she had a high post in the Special Forces – a position some, if not most, would die for. However, her life came crashing down in a split second when news of Yoruichi’s betrayal reached her ears.
Soifon was furious, but even more disappointed than she was irritated. Why hadn’t Yoruichi taken her along with her? Why hadn’t she trusted her own pupil enough to even give her a warning or an explanation? Why had Yoruichi taken that Urahara fool instead of her? A million questions threatened to explode through her brain, and somehow, Soifon managed to keep her sanity. After a few days of withdrawing into her quarters, she reemerged even stronger than ever.
Feeling the sting of her former mentor’s betrayal still scratching at her conscience, Soifon began training until she almost dropped from exhaustion. She had one new goal that would stay fixed in her head until she had the chance to fulfill it: become stronger than Yoruichi Shihoin. Her training and practicing were not in vain, luckily. After at least a century of intense drilling, Soifon managed to grasp the highest tier of Shinigami power – Bankai.
By this time, she had already jumped from seat to seat in the 2nd Division, which was already famous for its high amount of trained hand-to-hand fighters. Although she wasn’t socially popular and had chosen to keep her Bankai secret from all but the lieutenants and captains, she was already envied by many for her power and skill. It was only a matter of time before the captains began discussing her future as a captain.
Apparently their discussions were positive and went according to plan. Shortly after achieving her bankai, she was given the leader position of the Special Forces and after mastering her final release, she was granted with the captain position of 2nd Squad.
Unfortunately, yet another blow was to come. After the ryoka invasion of Seireitei, Soifon was finally reunited with her former mentor. However, this was not as successful as she had planned.
After a long, strenuous battle where she even almost managed to defeat Yoruichi, her ex-heroine used a sudden blast of Shunko, an ability that Soifon previously thought only she had discovered. In her defeat, Soifon broke down for the first time, pleading for Yoruichi to answer the questions that had plagued her mind for centuries. Although she received no answer, it’s assumed that she has forgiven Yoruichi for her abrupt departure and now idolizes her more than ever.
During the war between the Aizen's ranks and the numerous Shinigami, Soifon faced off against a profuse amount of Privaron Espada, seeing as the other captains had already defeated the majority of the Espada. Although most of her fights were relatively easy, leaving her with minimal damage, she was still too busy to see the death of her lieutenant, Marechiyo Omaeda. However, it's rumored that when she learned of his death, she had tears in her eyes. Perhaps the two really were friends on some level, or perhaps these rumors were false. Either way, her squad has remained lieutenantless for quite a while after his death.

Visual of Character: [See Signature; I admit it wasn’t made by me, so don’t think I’m trying to take credit for it or anything.]
Theme Song: N/A
RP Sample: [More of a test drive for her so I can make sure that I can have her react appropriately and stay in character. Set as more of a random meeting between her and some other Shinigami Captains I guess? Not exactly the most interesting thing to read, sorry. Oh, and this is before this site’s plot line with Gin Ichimaru still in Seireitei.]
The sun was burning her arms. It wasn’t like she cared, anyways. There were much more painful things to experience than simply overheating on a humid, frustratingly bright day. Still, the warmth burning into her short, black hair (which attracted heat anyways whether she liked it or not) was something that nagged at the back of her mind for the rest of the journey.
Clap, clap, clap, clap. The sound of her tabi sandals striking against the cold, stone floor etched itself into the silence. It was a captain’s meeting, and therefore her noisy, arrogant lieutenant had been allowed to stay back at the 2nd Division quarters. His absence didn’t bother her in the slightest; in fact, she was glad that he wasn’t here. At least she didn’t have to brush those d**n cracker crumbs out of her hair for now.
A huge, rectangular building loomed in the distance. She was still that far away from the meeting? Impatience prickled through her veins like sparks, and Soifon reluctantly decided to cut her traveling time short, no matter how much a waste of spiritual energy it would be.
Gathering her spirit force underneath her feet, she pushed off of the ground. Immediately, her vision was blurred simply from the speed that she was traveling at. Silvery buildings passed by in a kaleidoscope of gray, and Shinigami officers who had woken up early to do their morning routines were a mix of black and white.
In a short time, she arrived at the tall door leading to the meeting room. Panting just slightly, Soifon noted the sound of footsteps behind her and by feeling the surrounding reiatsu, she recognized Mayuri Kurotsuchi’s unique spiritual pressure bobbing closely nearby. Her conclusion was confirmed by the sound of his all-too-familiar drawling voice carrying almost lazily to her ears.
“Well, well. Look who showed up.”
By now, most of the more experienced captains had grown used to his annoying, nonchalant personality, and Soifon was no exception. Ignoring his comment, she pushed the door open with an effortless tap, noticing how Mayuri’s shadow towered over hers.
The sight of nine other captains lined up neatly in a row greeted her eyes, accompanied by the hunched figure of Captain Yamamoto Genryuusai aligned perfectly in the center.
She felt a prickle of self-consciousness flicker through her brain, but very well knew that she looked no different than the others who had gathered. Like them, she was wearing the traditional white haori marking her captaincy. Underneath that, as usual, Soifon wore the special uniform given only to the captain of the Secret Mobile Corps. It had no sleeves or back covering, but the haori hid this detail.
Taking a few places to take her place at the end of the line alongside Unohana Retsu, Soifon watched with her usual scrutinizing, determined expression as Mayuri line up beside Hitsugaya Toushirou. Although he annoyed all of the captains, none of them could deny that he was extremely useful in terms of the Gotei 13’s Research and Development program.
The meeting ended as usual with Yamamoto firmly thumping the ground with the butt of his thick, wooden staff. One by one, the captains dismissed themselves from the gathering, some of them pausing to discuss recent events with their friends.
As for Soifon, she simply brushed past their shoulders, easily navigating through the crowd due to her small frame. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t have her way today. Her usual path to the exit was halted by a strong, broad hand on her shoulder. Because of the mass gathering of enormous reiatsus, Soifon decided it was too difficult to predict who it was. Furrowing her eyebrows with an irritated expression, she turned around, inwardly amused by the feel of her two long braids bumping against her shoulder blades from the movement.
She found herself staring into a baggy shihakusho, and when she tilted her heads upwards, her gray eyes linked with Gin Ichimaru’s eyelids. Soifon instinctively narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “What do you want?” Although her voice was harsh, it wasn’t because she was annoyed with being held back from departing. It was because she didn’t trust a slippery character like him. Whenever he interfered, things always got out of control.
The lithe, silver-haired man gave a sly laugh, amused by her hostile voice. “Ah, a lil cautious now, are we, ‘fon-chan? No matter. Just wanted ta say that you might want t’watch that pretty lil back o’ yours. It gets a lil dang’rous out there, an’ I wouldn’t want ta see ya get hurt, if ya know what I mean.”
Soifon reached a slim hand up to roughly brush Ichimaru’s hand off of her shoulder, closing her eyes and frowning to show her disregard for his words. “It’s you that should be worrying. You’re already on a thin thread.” Her eyes snapped open to glare piercingly at his smiling face. “Don’t try to threaten me with your meaningless words. Once this is all over, you’ll be properly punished for your reckless actions.”
She spun on her heel to leave, and her gait didn’t even falter when Ichimaru called back, “Aw, yer mad at me? C’mon, ‘fon-chan. What if I said I didn’t mean it?”
The stoic, unbending captain responded with a slam of the wooden door.
